How to associate a Usb Modem Wireless Router Ethernet

I currently have a Usb broadband modem. I purchased a wireless router which has ethernet connections. Currently, the modem is plugged into my computer downstairs which is running Windows 98, therefore, it won't bridge the connections to my computer upstairs(Xp). I can't modernize to Xp because a family member wont 'risk' it.

Can I associate the Usb broadband modem to my wireless router using a complex choice of cable adapters ie ethernet to Usb (I cant find a Usb To Ethernet adapter). If this is not possible, if I plug the Usb modem into my Xp computer, can I bridge the connections to my Win 98 computer using the Xp computer as the host?

I think their is Ethernet to Usb out their currently but not Usb to ethernet. I dont see any calculate why you should not be able to hook up your Usb modem to your Xp computer and use it as a bridge to the 98 computer.

Of course, it would be nicer to have an all-in-one unit, but you can achieve your goal with this equipment. You cannot use cable adapters to convert the modem's Usb into Ethernet. Usb needs drivers to operate, and Ethernet connections do not provide those drivers to the device. You could also associate the modem to the Xp engine and bridge connections, yes. But you can leave the ideas the way it is and configure it to run smoothly like this:

If I had the hardwear in front of me, it would be easier to provide specifics... But i can probly give you an idea of what to do. There are only 2 steps here:

1. Configure an internet gateway.

2. Configure the router.

And the rest is easy.

1. Set up the internet engine to Share An Internet association (you can use the wizard if you want, or just enable Internet association Sharing), which will turn the 98 into an internet gateway. That gateway needs an Ip address designated, however. In essence, the 98 engine will be the internet server, so the Ip of the 98 engine is the Ip of the gateway. Assign an address, for example: 192.168.1.1 to the 98 machine. The "192.168" is important, and the last strings you can stretch on, but for the sake of ease lets keep it small. *Tip* the subnet mask will all the time be 255.255.255.0. Okay that takes care of the host machine.

2. After you have an internet gateway, associate the wireless router, and console (or Ip) in to the settings, normally by going into internet explorer and typing 192.168.0.1 into the address bar, and look for a slot for Internet Gateway. Type the address assigned in step 1. Thats that for the router. (there may be other settings needful for your exact network, and if there are, be sure to configure those.)

Lastly a few housekeeping tasks. Make sure the workgroup for both machines is identical. I normally use Mshome as the workgroup. Also make sure that on the Xp machine, your Ip address is set to "Automatically derive Ip address", also known as Dhcp.

Belkin Wireless Router Surf N300 - popular ,favorite Home Router

Just after unpacking Belkin wireless router you will see a fashionable style box without any surface antennas, or sharp edges. It's well know that Belkin routers are also top ability style as they are top ability hardware.

Hardware set up is fairly simple. You can whether do it manually with a help from guide-book, or just use the set up Cd that can help you setting up your router. With a web-based user interface users can alter the classic environment configurations for your router from any Pc on the local network.

The router itself has a minimalistic outer user interface. There is a Led light that glows green when the Internet works well. Once you've terminated setup the router will start working correctly. You can configure last option using the in case, granted Cd or you put manually Wi-Fi password on your device.

If you are not good at environment setting up, you can usually use in case, granted Cd to alternatively put the configuration on each personal computer and to associate automatically them to the network.

A Wi-Fi Protected Setup (Wps) button makes it easy to associate and gain Pcs and other devices for home wireless routers. Near Belkin Surf has a Wps button is a helpful light that reveals the standing of the Wps in the course to set up a gain connection.

Router provides base Plug & Play to ensure flat performance of gaming, voice and video messaging. Luckily there is a web-based alternative to the setup wizard. There is a reset button to restart the router while maintaining establishments. N300 also have a option to restart in a method that restores the factory environment configurations. An included Self-Healing application is designed to find and determine wireless network issues, it seems like it would be a good thing until it is restarted at inopportune times.

Belkin wireless router Surf supports Ieee 802.1 11n thorough that is backward compatible with prior generations of Wi-Fi. Four Ethernet ports constitute a local wired network. With a unique tool called Wi-Fi Multimedia ability Belkin wireless router manages multimedia applications to get the most out of available bandwidth by allowing some programs to go ahead of others.

Range of N300 is legitimately best than most of N routers, and it's also much best than the last generation B/G routers. I was most pleased with speed from my Xbox 360. I also was surprised that I've got range in my next door neighbor house, without even dropping a bar.

This router is not so great as Belkin Play Max, but for its price its one of the best out there. If you are searching for a router or modem + router, this Belkin wireless router is truly the excellent option in my viewpoint. It has the simple style and easy set up. Specifications are largely the same for all devices in this category.

The only drawback about this router is the exiguous set up choice. I would legitimately have valued that as a option to the Belkin wireless router to install on the wall too, instead of just the table top set up.

Best Wireless N Router for Home

A wireless n router is the center of any home wireless network, functioning much like a cordless phone base hub with manifold handsets. The wireless n router is fast, reaching speeds of upwards of 200 Mbps megabits per second and theoretically reaching 300 Mbps. However, you can't exceed the speed in case, granted by your Isp (Internet assistance Provider) modem. An Ethernet cable connects the wireless router to the modem and the ability of that association also has an follow on your maximum speed. There is no need to buy a high ability wireless n router if you are only paying your Isp for speeds less than 200 Mbps. This is the range of Dsl providers. If you are streaming video, transferring photos in Hd, and downloading large pdf files, you don't want to be waiting hours to do your file transfers. You want to be using high speed cable or wireless internet service.

You need to settle your need for speed and range. Wireless n routers have a longer range, theoretically twice that of wireless-G routers. One key feature of n routers is manifold input, manifold production (Mimo). Generally, Mimo routers use manifold antennas and atypical transmission technologies to heighten speed and range. Mimo routers have an easier time pushing the signal through obstacles like walls, floors, and doors. This means fewer 'dead spots' in your home. If you play games online, trade large files or your network consists of distantly isolated rooms, a wireless n router will help sacrifice interference as well.

So, what is the Best, Fastest, and most dependable wireless n router?

Mac and Pc user alike all say that the Apple AirPort greatest is the best wireless n router you can buy. The Apple Time Capsule is a similar wireless router with a built-in hard drive, in 1 and 2 Tb versions. Experts say this Apple router delivers great range and are the most dependable in owner surveys.

Like other top-of-the-line wireless routers, the Apple AirPort greatest offers guest networking and the ability to share external hard drives wirelessly. Unlike the competition, the AirPort greatest lets you also share Usb printers wirelessly. It's an Apple so it's easy to set up even for the beginner, whether they use Macs or Pcs.

You can hook up a Usb printer to the Apple Airport Extreme router for wireless sharing. The Apple routers work faster in speed tests, both routing and reading/writing to an attached external hard drive. Finally, Apple wireless routers win two awards for reliability and have nearly perfect owner ratings at Amazon.com.

Wireless Router - The Best choice To Get linked

Routers have now become an requisite element of modern home and enterprise networks. There are two types of routers - wired and wireless. A wireless router allows your computer connect to the network and explore your beloved Websites, check e-mail, Im friends, or teleconference with colleagues. A wired router also performs the same task. But if you don't want to clutter your setup with Ethernet cables, then the best option is to go for a wireless router.

Wireless router is now widely beloved as they not only act as a wired router but they also transmit a wireless signal. This means, you may remain linked to a network without having to connect your computer to anything. As more and more people are now using laptops and connect a game console to the Internet, wireless routers are becoming more and more popular.

Wondering which type of router to purchase? Well, if there are a estimate of computers as well as laptops, then it is much better to get a wireless router. Nowadays, all the laptops come with built-in wireless network feature. So, you don't need to spend extra bucks for buying additional cards.

Since wireless routers also have additional ports for direct relationship to local computers, the users can add computers directly to the router. Apart from this, if you have other wireless devices, you can precisely present wirelessly to the same router.

When it comes to selecting a wireless, you need to reconsider the networking technology that a router works with. Standards Protocols may differ depending on your Network. Most of the times the users find difficulties to decipher the separate protocols and wireless technologies. 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n are the three most coarse routers. It is recommended to pick 802.11g as it is most compatible with most wireless networking standards. For Internet & Network Support, you can consult a computer services company.

For the wireless routers, safety is an prominent concern. Computing devices within the range of the wireless network are capable of using information detection software to gain entrance to a wireless communications. Due to this imagine there should be adequate safety measures to safe your wireless network from intruders. You may know that all wireless routers offer integrated encryption protocols and security. By using Wec or Mac address filters you can also give unique hardware identifiers to the equipment that enable network devices to identify themselves. Wireless Encryption Protocol is also other formula of ensuring regain transmissions in wireless network.

How a Wireless N Dual Band Router Improves Your Network - Part 1

Part 1: The Cluttered Wireless 2.4Ghz Band

Most of today's wireless routers reserve 802.11g (Wireless-G) and many of them start to reserve 802.11n (Wireless-N) after the specification has been finalized in October, 2009. If you've bought a laptop or wireless router after 2009, chances are that they will reserve 802.11n and 802.11g.

Wireless-G and N can both utilize a coarse network frequency at 2.4Ghz, it's the same old 2.4Ghz that have been used by earlier 802.11 and 802.11b networks, and also by most of the home & office wireless telephones and remote controls.

With so many devices using 2.4Ghz in your house, and your neighbors' surround you, 2.4Ghz networks are very cluttered with dozens maybe even hundreds of wireless devices.

To sacrifice interference to some degree, the 2.4Ghz network is divided up into 14 channels, with each one having its own frequency very close to 2.4Ghz. They are 2.412, 2.417, 2.422, 2.427, 2.432, 2.437, 2.442, 2.447, 2.452, 2.457, 2.462, 2467, 2.472, 2.484 Ghz.

In North American only the first 11 channels are used, while in the rest of the world all the first 13, with Japan also using the last channel in their 802.11b standards.

Most 2.4Ghz expedient can select their channel at one of the 11 frequencies. The larger the difference in the frequency, the less interference the devices will encounter. Setting your expedient away from a cluttered channel might help a minute back in 2003 when not so many Wireless G devices were around.

However, it doesn't genuinely help that much in 2010. By default, all wireless routers select Channel 6, the one in the middle. If you and your neighbors did not change channel in your routers' setting page, you are stuck in Channel 6 with a lot of other devices. Even if you are smart enough to change to Channel 1 or Channel 11, your laptop probably would still go head-and-shoulder with man else's devices in the same or a near-by channel.

Unless you live in a big house with a huge backyard, your network environment will be all very cluttered.

Does Wireless-N Help?

The new Wireless-N standards can utilize both 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz frequency bands.

Despite so, most routers that reserve Wireless-N still don't reserve 5Ghz, and they are using the same old, cluttered, 2.4Ghz. Of course, in a perfectly clean environment, you will still advantage from Wireless-N's wider range and faster data change rate. But if your router sits in a noisy 2.4Ghz environment, it might not achieve as well.

This is why so many users still don't feel much of revision after having upgraded to a Wireless-N router. Their gaming, P2P downloading, transferring files or streaming media are still slow or jerky, or they stop altogether from time to time.

Sure, the router could be overheating or have a flawed firmware, but more likely, you have a noisy, cluttered wireless environment that keeps interfering your wireless communications. It's like a terrible traffic jam on a Friday afternoon, only every day for your router.

Fortunately, Wireless-N supports 5.0Ghz, and it's like a whole new open world, where your wireless devices can flee to.

In Part 2, we will discuss how Wireless N dual band router will help you cut through the interference and gives you much higher throughput and range.

So let's have a break and I'll see you in Part 2.

Best Wireless Router

There are a lot of people who are finding for the best wireless router, but the best wireless router is very different, depending on the person and their needs. What is best for one person may be completely distinct than what is best for another.

Computer games, for instance, wish a inescapable kind of wireless router for the gamer to get the best experience. For one, the router should furnish a good signal and abundance of bandwidth. Packet loss is highly detrimental to the gaming experience, and a router that can be depended on is best. The best gaming wireless router will also have good potential of assistance software, so that the bandwidth devoted to inescapable uses, like browsing the web or downloading, can be limited, and the bandwidth devoted to gaming can be increased.

This is in discrepancy to the best wireless router for a large home, where range will be important. In this situation, the person shopping for a router should be finding at routers that have a long range. More specifically, routers that have external antennas, and more than one external antenna. The less material there is in the middle of the antenna and the computer, the good the signal will be, and that includes the case of the wireless router.

And person that is finding to set up a whole wireless home entertainment system, complete with Wi-Fi enabled Tv and gaming consoles, would be best served by a router that came with dual band, so that the Tv and the console games could use one band, while the laptops and other, similar devices could use the other band. That way, both sets of devices are not competing with each other for bandwidth, and person playing computer games will not have to pronounce with person streaming a movie to the Wi-Fi enabled Tv.

Of course there are many other scenarios that a router might be used for, these are just a few that might be more common. The point is that a person finding to buy a router should go beyond just asking for the best wireless router, because what is best is highly dependent on the scenario.

Once you have identified what your needs are from a router, you can then begin finding for the best router for you. And since you have a good idea of exactly what you need, you will be good able to make a decision on what router to purchase.

finding For Unbiased Wireless Router Reviews?

A question with wireless router reviews, we find, is that it can be difficult to find reviews without bias. How many times have you been reading a tech magazine, you browse through a glowing recite of a unavoidable new product, and then you turn the page and see a two page spread advertising the product?

Online wireless router reviews should be a wee more reliable, but you also run into some reviews accompanied by banner ads for the very product being reviewed.

We don't mean to paint the whole thing in too negative a light. The truth is that, no matter what the reviews say, word of mouth will always kill a bad product. However, the fact remains that a publication such as a magazine or a recite website typically relies on advertiser money to keep afloat, and a negative recite can jeopardize good company relations in the middle of a constructor and the publication.

There are honest reviews out there, to be sure, and even these reviews that seem biased are still based in truth, but obviously, if your biggest sponsor is putting out a new product this month, you're likely to gloss over the product's faults while hyping up the unavoidable aspects of the new release.

Here, our only interest is the reader. We're not getting any sponsorship deals from linksys wireless, netgear or belkin, and we're free to tell you exactly what's what when it comes to wireless routers, cross referencing our own take with other unbiased reviews, message board posts and opinions on the products in order to make sure that we're covering every product from every relevant angle.

So when we list the best wireless routers, we're not listing "The best routers we're getting paid to hype", rather, we're listing the wireless routers we deem to be the best, most capable and most gain routers on the market.

You will see us list fellowships like Belkin in some reviews, because Belkin is one of the more graphic and valuable fellowships producing wireless routers today, however, we also pride ourselves on giving every product we recite a fair shake. Just because Belkin produces great products doesn't mean that every product they yield is great.

There are some great product recite sites on the internet, but for an unbiased report, we always advise checking out message boards and user forums concerning unavoidable products (in fact, we often check such sites in order to gain a distinct perspective for our reviews). A paid reviewer's job is on the line if he prints a negative review, but a message board user is free to say anything without reprisal.

192-168-2-1 Wireless Router Ip Address - What is It?

What is an Ip Address?

Every gadget that is linked to a network, together with the Internet, has an Internet Protocol (Ip) address. The Internet Protocol defines a proper digital method that is used by computer devices to tell with each other. These devices tell by delivering and receiving datagrams, called data packets, from the source gadget to the destination gadget and vice versa over a network. Each gadget has a unique Ip address that allows devices to find each other on a network and to replacement data packets.

Best Soho Wireless Router Range

Networks can be created using telephone lines, cell phones, cable Tv, Ethernet cables, and with wireless routers. Routers are used to assign temporary Ip addresses to devices linked to the local area network the router controls and to "route" data packets colse to a network to the correct devices. Some routers have extra features such as encryption of data packets, data packet error correction, and wireless access.

Internet Protocol version 4 (Ipv4) defines 32-bit Ip addresses is made up by of a group of four numbers fluctuating from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255. This equates to about 4 billion Ip addresses. A 128-bit version of the Internet Protocol called Ipv6 has been advanced that will allow for many more addresses if Ip addresses run out with Ipv4.

How to use a Wireless Router Ip Address

All wireless routers have one Internet Protocol (Ip) address that is used as the address for the local area network (Lan) and one that is used for an external wide area network (Wan) connection such as the Internet. Internal (Lan) Ip addresses are regularly pre-set to the router manufacturer's premise default Ip address. When you enter the router's Ip address into your web browser as a http invite (for example http://192.168.1.245 for a Linksys router), the browser will send a invite to your router to open the router's default administration page so you can access the router's settings.

How to find your Wireless Router Ip Address

The first place to check is in the wireless router's user manual. If you don't have a user manual or can't find it, you can try visiting the manufacturer's website and crusade for the default Ip address there. Alternatively, connect your wireless router with its Ethernet cable to your computer and power up and start both devices. If you are running a Windows operating ideas such as Windows Xp or Vista, bring up the Command Prompt window (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt) and type the word "ipconfig" without the quotes at the prompt and press enter. You should see a list of Ip addresses and the one that is listed next to the "Default Gateway" is the Ip address of the wireless router you have linked to your computer. Next open your web browser and type in the http invite using that same Ip address and you should see the router's administration page where you can log in (the user manual will also have the default username and password for the router's administration page) to convert the router's settings.

Wireless router manufacturer's can use separate premise pre-set Ip addresses for separate model routers they manufacture. The premise pre-set Ip address is regularly stored in the firmware of the router. So if you can not get into your router's administration page you may need to try one of the other Ip addresses the constructor uses with other models in case the firmware was upgraded after the publication date of the user manual. For a list of coarse Ip addresses used by router Manufactures, visit the best wireless router website.

Belkin Router N With Print Server

High Speeds

The main unlikeness between the old Linksys E-3000 and Linksys E-4200 is the speed specs. The maximum speeds for E-3000 is 300Mbps theoretically for either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz bands which is ordinarily known as the N600 router. While the Linksys E-4200 speed is 300Mbps for 2.4Ghz band and 450Mbps for 5Ghz band - this is ordinarily known as N750 routers.

The router includes full 3x3 Mimo antenna array for maximum range and reliability. With the high speeds of up to 450Mbps (for 5Ghz band) and the longer distance range coverage and with the increasing of QoS feature, the router provides maximum high operation wireless environment for high speed Hd media streaming and plane and fast response gaming experiences. QoS (Quality of Service) technology is the ability of the router to furnish the traffic prioritization for gaming and streaming over other data traffic.

Netgear also introduced the N750 router Wndr4000 which is practically the same specs as the Linksys E-4200 router. Both routers are adequate with the Gigabit Wan (1 port) and Gigabit Lan (4 ports) Ethernet interfaces. With Gigabit Lan interface, you can connect any computers with gigabit Nic enabled using Cat5e network cable for high speed wired connection.

Like Netgear Wndr4000, the Linksys E-4200 includes one Gigabit Wan port. For home users who subscribe Cable internet services, you can connect to the high speed Docsis 3.0 cable modem such as Surfboard Sb6120 which includes gigabit Ethernet port for optimum data throughput.

Usb Port

Linksys E-4200 includes one built-in Usb port with UpnP Media Server to let you share an external warehouse with the users on the local network or securely entrance via the internet by means of Vpn connection. With the built-in UpnP Av Media Server you can stream your Hd media to other media devices along with the Xbox, Ps3, Blu-Ray players, and Tv.

Unfortunately, you cannot use this Usb port to host a Usb printer for sharing. To share the printer via the network you need to buy detach wireless print server or you can use the computer and configure it traditionally for print-server.

Compared to the Netgear premium edition Wndr3800, the router supports the Usb port that can be used to host an external warehouse or Usb printer for sharing. But the Wndr3800 delivers the maximum speeds of up to300Mbps (N600 technology). Should you need the environment that supports both warehouse and printer for sharing, you may think Belkin Hd N600 which includes two Usb ports for warehouse and printer.

Advanced Security

Like other new routers with wireless 802.11n support, the router supports the newest wireless safety encryption: Wpa/Wpa2 (Wi-Fi Protected Access) the stronger wireless safety compared with the Wep (for legacy 802.11b/g devices). The Linksys E-Series supports the Radius as well if your business network supports the Radius server for Authentication and Authorization. You can enable the router for Radius to join with the Radius server for centralized authentication.

Not many routers hold the Guest network access. Guest network entrance can be enabled to allow your guests entrance the internet without gaining entrance to your local network. You can enable the Guest entrance to allow up to 5 guests to entrance the Internet without compromising your local network.

All the must have safety features along with the Nat and Spi are also included for protecting the network against any threats. The Dhcp must have highlight also included to furnish the Ip address automatically to all the computers on the network.

Should you need the maximum speeds of the wireless environment for demanding high arduous bandwidth applications such as for plane gaming and Hd media streaming, Linksys E-4200 is your choice.

If you're downloading a large files and it's coming to it's end, you're receiving a Skype call from a client in London, without warning, your Wi-Fi connection drops, leaving your download and VoIP call in havoc. You'll retry the wireless connection, but your router, though blinking contentedly in your tense, seems to be off. After three hour, for no reason, your Wi-Fi connection miraculously resurfaces.

Wireless networking can be a easy and yet gives you a headache, It's great when it works and a mind-numbing frustration when it doesn't. A common complaint among many who have moved to Wi-Fi is that their wireless connection mysteriously fades in and out the frequency.

Belkin Wireless N Router

belkin wireless n router

These steps will help you to create a stable, Always-on the wireless connections.

1. Replace your cordless phone. Cordless phones are among the worst sources of interference for wireless networks. They intend to transmit at a higher power output than Wi-Fi gear, making them louder and therefore harder to talk over, and they tend to transmit frequently, especially when the handset and base station are separated. Some 2.4GHz cordless phones let you select a channel, in which case you can try separating the phone's frequency from the frequency of your wireless network. For example, set your phone to channel 1 and your wireless router to channel 11. If your phone doesn't let you select a channel, try putting some distance between your phone and your router. Generally, it's not a good idea to place a cordless phone next to a Wi-Fi router. If this doesn't help, consider replacing your 2.4GHz phone with a 5GHz phone. This way, your phone and network won't be sharing the same airspace and won't interfere with each other.

2. Expand your wireless network. The farther you are from your wireless router, the greater the potential for interference to block or to slow your connection. For example, you may be able to connect just fine in your house, but on your patio, you may have an intermittent connection that disappears whenever your neighbor is using her cordless phone. The signal on your patio may be too weak to cope with the interference coming from the house next door. You can strengthen the connection with antennas or repeaters or you can use a power-line bridge to import the connection from your router to your patio and feed it into a power-line access point. Instead of the weak signal from your distant router, you now have a strong signal from an access point placed right where you want to buttress your coverage area.

3. Change channels. Interference is a likely cause of intermittent connections, such as the one described above. All 802.11b and 802.11g networks operate at 2.4GHz, in a small swath of spectrum once used primarily by ham-radio hobbyists. Today, these radios, plus other Wi-Fi gear, Bluetooth devices, cordless phones, microwave ovens, baby monitors, and wireless surveillance equipment, all crowd the spectrum. When these devices compete for the same airspace, they interfere with each other, potentially blocking each other's signals. Luckily, there are ways to sidestep and minimize interference in many situations. In the United States, 802.11b and 802.11g devices can be configured to operate at any one of 11 channels. Unfortunately, these channels overlap with adjacent channels, so you have only 3 non overlapping channels at your disposal: channels 1, 6, and 11. If you and your neighbor both have a wireless network, both of which are set to channel 6, you may experience interference. You can remedy the problem by resetting your wireless router to a different, preferably non overlapping, channel, in this case, either 1 or 11.

How a Wireless N Dual Band Router Improves Your Network - Part 1

Part 1: The Cluttered Wireless 2.4GHz Band

Most of today's wireless routers support 802.11g (Wireless-G) and many of them start to support 802.11n (Wireless-N) after the specification has been finalized in October, 2009. If you've bought a laptop or wireless router after 2009, chances are that they will support 802.11n and 802.11g.

Belkin Wireless N Router

belkin wireless n router

Wireless-G and N can both utilize a common network frequency at 2.4GHz, it's the same old 2.4GHz that have been used by earlier 802.11 and 802.11b networks, and also by most of the home & office wireless telephones and remote controls.

With so many devices using 2.4GHz in your house, and your neighbors' surround you, 2.4Ghz networks are extremely cluttered with dozens maybe even hundreds of wireless devices.

To reduce interference to some degree, the 2.4Ghz network is divided up into 14 channels, with each one having its own frequency very close to 2.4GHz.

Most 2.4GHz device can choose their channel at one of the 11 frequencies. The larger the difference in the frequency, the less interference the devices will encounter. Setting your device away from a cluttered channel might help a little back in 2003 when not so many Wireless G devices were around.

However, it doesn't really help that much in 2010. By default, all wireless routers choose Channel 6, the one in the middle. If you and your neighbors did not change channel in your routers' setting page, you are stuck in Channel 6 with a lot of other devices. Even if you are smart enough to change to Channel 1 or Channel 11, your laptop probably would still go head-and-shoulder with someone else's devices in the same or a near-by channel.

Unless you live in a big house with a huge backyard, your network environment will be all very cluttered.

Does Wireless-N Help?

The new Wireless-N standards can utilize both 2.4GHz and 5.0GHz frequency bands.

Despite so, most routers that support Wireless-N still don't support 5GHz, and they are using the same old, cluttered, 2.4GHz. Of course, in a perfectly clean environment, you will still benefit from Wireless-N's wider range and faster data transfer rate. But if your router sits in a noisy 2.4GHz environment, it might not perform as well.

This is why so many users still don't feel much of improvement after having upgraded to a Wireless-N router.

Fortunately, Wireless-N supports 5.0GHz, and it's like a whole new open world, where your wireless devices can escape to.

In Part 2, we will discuss how Wireless N dual band router will help you cut through the interference and gives you much higher throughput and range.

So let's have a break and I'll see you in Part 2.

Best Gigabit Wireless Router - What You Need to Know

The term the best for wireless router is relative, because manufacturers always ship new product introductions each several months or so which are better performance and by adopting the latest technologies available in the marketplace.

Today, each of the wireless manufacturers has shipped new wireless routers with gigabit LAN and WAN interfaces for their high-performance category products. Now, which one is the best among those gigabit wireless route products?

Belkin Wireless N Router

belkin wireless n router

Assume you get the best gigabit wireless router today, the next six months or so come a new product introduction with much better performance and the latest technology, who knows. So, in selecting the best one, you should include the following criteria:

1. High-speed. To provide high speed data throughput - the wireless router should be powered with the latest wireless technology - the ratified version of the 802.11n technology. The draft version of 802.11n was approved last Sep 2009 with some option additions.

2. Clean wireless. 5 GHz is cleaner frequency band compared with 2.4 GHz band since wireless router which operates in 5 GHz frequency band is less noise / interference. So, the best router should support the 802.11a technology which operates in 5 GHz frequency band. The router should support the dual-band technology.

3. Further range. So far, the technology adopted for the wireless devices to deliver longer distance range is the MIMO (Multiple-in Multiple-out) technology combined with wireless N. Some manufacturers do not specifically specify the MIMO technology in their products but they adopt the technology into the products.

4. Consistent data throughput. High-intensive bandwidth applications such as gaming and video streaming demand consistent data throughput for lag-free and jitter-free performance. Your best gigabit wireless router should support the Quality of Services (QoS) technology for multimedia traffic prioritizations.

5. Secure. Mostly all new wireless routers today are powered with the latest security technology including the WPA/WPA2; NAT and SPI firewall; VPN pass-through; and the new feature option is the capability of providing a security boundary for guest access. Typically the router supports the multiple SSID for secure guest access. Guest access is ideal for your SOHO environment where you allow your business visitors access the internet without providing your private network resources.

In selecting the best gigabit wireless router, you should examine that the router support the above criteria for high-performance wireless network.

Tips on How to Choose the Best Wireless Router For Your Home

When it comes to wireless internet connectivity, we all want to buy the best wireless router. Because the internet is so much a part of our lives nowadays, we would not want to risk internet disconnection just because of an unreliable router.

Your first challenge in buying the best wireless router is sorting through the various brands of networking devices now sold in the market. To find the right one, use the following tips:

Belkin Wireless N Router

belkin wireless n router

Tip 1: Do not always go for high-speed routers
High speed is what we are all looking for. However, high speed routers do not guarantee a high speed internet connection. According to router experts, most high speed router models do not even use the average of the speed they promise. Spending extra money on such a model of router might not be ideal. Choose only those with mid-level speed. If your internet connection is fast enough, transmission will be good enough.

Tip 2: Choose the right design and size
Many people are not really particular about the design of the router they are buying. They are mostly particular about the functionality of the router. The size and design of the router you are buying will depend on the space allotted for your router in your room.

Tip 3: Do not just rely on reviews to determine the reliability of the router
There is a mix of positive and negative accountings about the brand of router. The experiences are not the same. Also, some people are very critical about the speed and the transmission of their routers. Some have higher standards. For home use, you don't really need a fussy router. You can just stick to those simpler models. The security of the router can just be configured. So don't let the good and bad reviews decide for you.

Tip 4: Choose between those with external or internal antennas
According to networking experts those products with external antennas deliver stronger signals. There are certain brands of routers with more than one antenna. If you have a large house and you would want to get full signal anywhere in the house, you should choose a router than can deliver stronger signal. Many also prefer buying this with internal antennas. That is because they are less conspicuous compared to its external counterpart. They just use a signal amplifier to increase signal transmission.

Just consider these steps when you are buying so you can choose only the best wireless router for your home.

And the wireless gaming router is the main device you need to build a secured gaming infrastructure to allow you go live game wirelessly in the comfort of your living room without the clutter of the wires. The question is which one is the best for your online gaming?

Belkin Wireless N Router

belkin wireless n router

Wireless routers for online gaming demands high performance and secured network including the speed, reliable connection, low noise or if possible free of signal attenuator, and secured for your internal network.

High Speed Connection

Gaming is a high intensive bandwidth application that demands high-speed either wired or wireless connection. Generally the game consoles are equipped with 100Mbps Ethernet port. For wired connection to your local network, 100Mbps Ethernet port provides reliable high-speed connection. What if you demand wireless connection? You need high-speed wireless technology - the wireless-n (draft) standard. Your wireless gaming router should be powered by this wireless -n technology. Wireless -n is the future of the wireless technology available in the market you can taste today.

Most routers with wireless -n technology also adopt smart wireless antenna MIMO technology. Even though many manufacturers do not specifically label their products with MIMO technology, but they adopt the technology integrated into their own technology such as RangeMax by Netgear and Xtreme n by D-Link.

Combination of wireless -n and MIMO technologies will increase the system performance and longer distance coverage.

Make sure that your wireless gaming router is powered by the draft 802.11n standard and MIMO antenna technology or other integrated technology.

Quality of Services

High intensive bandwidth applications demand high quality services. Your wireless gaming router should support high quality of services (QoS) technology. With QoS, the system can provide prioritization over the game application above other applications such as web browsing and files downloading. Many routers support intelligent QoS technology to allow prioritization both wired and wireless Internet traffic to enable enhanced gaming experience.

DMZ Support

Exposing the computer into the wild internet is vulnerable to the internet threats. Online gaming means exposing the network into the wild internet. A secured system is needed to protect your internal network against any types of internet threats. The best way to protect and separate your internal network from the exposed host can be done by creating a security boundary. DMZ feature is used to create a security boundary for the exposed host. It is therefore, your wireless gaming router should support the DMZ feature.

Dual-band Support

Many wireless routers support dual-band feature that support both 2.4 GHz (for wireless b/g/n standards) and 5 GHz (for wireless -a standards) frequency bands either selectable or simultaneously. The benefit of having dual band is that you can play games (and other HD video streaming media) with 5 GHz frequency band which is less noise than 2.4 GHz band.

We know that there are many sources of signal interference around you using 2.4 GHz frequency band such as cordless phones, microwave oven, automatic garage door, etc that contribute to signal attenuator. It is therefore, the wireless gaming router should support dual-band.

Wireless Router With Print Server - Which One Meets Your Need?

One of the advantages of computer networking is the ability to share a single printer with many computers in the network. No more of waiting in a queue to print documents to the printer. Just send the print jobs from your computer in the network, and the print server manages the job queues automatically for you.

Traditionally you share the printer by attaching the printer to your computer via USB port and configure it to be accessible by other users across the network. When the computer turns off, you cannot access the printer. But with the printer attached to the print server, you can access the printer anytime - no need to turn on the computer for sharing.

Belkin Wireless N Router

belkin wireless n router

In home wireless computer networks, the wireless router is the center of your wireless network to allow you share the broadband internet connection. Many types of routers are equipped with USB port for share storage or share printer. Some routers with USB port can only be used for share storage; or can be used either for share storage or share printer. Having a wireless router with USB port for share printer is beneficial, since you don't need to purchase separate print server device. Unless you need a wireless print server, where you can place the printer in anywhere within the house without the clutter of the wires - and you can access it wirelessly.

Whenever you are building a wireless network in home with printer as one of your concern, you should consider the wireless router with print server (USB port) so you don't need to purchase separate print server device. The following are some of wireless routers with print server port which are available in the marketplace.

Linksys Wireless Router WRT54GL

Check the pros and cons of Linksys wireless router WRT54GL - Titan of Work.

If you are a Wi-Fi amateur, you may find yourself in Router Jungle. There are a lot of routers out there, some with instructions that don't provide a step-by-step guide, some with cheap hardware solutions and it's not hard to be overcharged for your average router.

Belkin Wireless N Router

belkin wireless n router

To avoid those problems I've recommend Linksys family and WRT54GL Linksys router for your first home and small business wireless router. For me it's Titan of Work - it's just a little device, but it's very powerful.

First of all, this Linksys wireless router can use both wired and wireless links, so you can share internet as you wish. WRT54GL have four Ethernet slots and can handle up to 255 wireless devices in your area. In other words - you can build your custom network with your PC, notebook, workstation on LAN, and a Wi-Fi game console hook up.

Your Wi-Fi signal has also better quality, because of two antennas that are in box with WRT54GL Linksys router. Best Router Wireless Device: 6 Strategies on How to Choose the Best for Your Network

If you have multiple devices, such as desktops, a laptop, and printer and want to create a network, then you will need a router. And to avoid having so many cables connected to these devices, especially running from room to room, you will need a wireless router. So, how does one choose the best router wireless device for their network?

1. First of all, the router that is selected needs to be compatible (work) with existing wireless cable or the DSL modem you may use. Many times laptops come equipped with a wireless card that is built-in but some do not especially older ones. All desktops do not have a wireless card, either. Therefore, you may need to purchase one. If you have an Apple Mac desktop or laptop, chances are the wireless card is built-in. And any device that is to be shared over the network, such as a printer needs to be compatible, also.

2. To prevent security issues even with the best router wireless device on the market, password protection is recommended. Also, password protection fends off freeloaders from accessing your wireless connection since you can't know how far the signal is reaching.

3. Some routers come with more than one antenna enabling them to be pointed in different directions; hence the range coverage area is another determining factor when selecting a network router. For instance, will your coverage include one room or two, downstairs or upstairs?

4. When selecting a network router, look for the ones that include status lights that indicate connection and status on the router itself and PC activity.

5. Also make sure the best router wireless device you choose for your network has two Ethernet connection ports to insure connectivity to devices, such as a full desktop to the network.

6. Your router may be in visible, high traffic areas, or used in travel and moved around a lot, so getting one that is durable is a good choice. And you may want to choose a router that is small and will blend in with its surroundings, such as a desk or table.

Many wireless routers are on the market today. They range in size and prices along with network capabilities. However, it don't have to be an overwhelming, time-consuming task in trying to decide the best router wireless device that will do the job for the particular network you want to create.
